This training session takes a hands-on approach to autism, enabling law enforcement personnel to recognize and interact with children and adults on the autism spectrum that they may encounter in a variety of real-life situations.

- Overview of autism and Asperger’s syndrome
- Signs and symptoms
- Interaction guidelines (including approach, de-escalation, communication, assessment, and transport strategies)
- Specific scenarios for police work, including approaches to interviewing, interrogation, and jailing
- Search and rescue protocol
- Community partnerships

- Anticipate and be prepared for challenges associated with this population
